Digital Marketing for Salons: Getting Started with Google, Instagram and WhatsApp

Why digital marketing matters for salons

Most new clients now find a salon on their phone before they ever walk in. They search, compare photos and reviews, check prices, and book with the salon that makes it easiest. If your salon isn't visible and bookable online, those clients go somewhere else, however good your work is.

The good news: you don't need a big budget. You need four things working together:

Get found → Look great → Make booking easy → Bring clients back

1. Google Business Profile: get found

Your Google Business Profile (once called Google My Business) is free, and for local searches like "salon near me" it's often the first thing people see.

  • Claim and verify your profile, and choose the right category: Beauty salon, Hair salon or Nail salon.

  • List every service with its ₹ price, your opening hours and your booking link.

  • Upload 20+ real photos of your work, your team and your space, then add new ones every week.

  • Post weekly: offers, new services, festive looks.

  • Reply to every review, good or bad.

Use exactly the same salon name, address and phone number on Google, your website and every listing.

2. Your ESA listing and website: make booking easy

Every ESA member gets a free listing in the ESA salon directory and an AI-built website that goes live in minutes, with no designer needed. It includes your services and prices, gallery, reviews, and Book Now, WhatsApp and call buttons, and you can connect your own domain.

Add the website link to your Google profile and your Instagram bio, so everyone who finds you can book in one tap. Clients can also book, track their packages and see their bills in the ESA Customer App.

3. Instagram: show your work

Salon work is visual, which makes Instagram a natural fit.

  • Post before-and-after transformations, behind-the-scenes clips, team introductions and client stories (always with permission).

  • Reels usually reach more people than photos. Short 15–30 second clips of a transformation or a quick tip are enough, and your smartphone is all you need.

  • Be consistent: 3–5 posts a week you can keep up beats 10 posts one week and none the next.

  • Use local hashtags for your area and city, such as #PitampuraSalon, #DelhiBrides or #DelhiHair, plus your salon's own hashtag.

  • Put your booking link in your bio.

4. WhatsApp: bring clients back

This is where many salons lose money: a client loves her visit and then simply forgets to rebook. ESA's Campaigns help you stay in touch on the app your clients use every day.

  • Appointment reminders, to reduce no-shows.

  • "Time for your next visit" messages, for repeat services like hair spa, colour touch-ups and facials.

  • Festive and wedding-season offers, sent to the clients most likely to book.

  • Automated campaigns that you set up once, plus AI suggestions on what to send next.

The prepaid messaging wallet shows what each message costs and which campaigns brought clients back.

5. Offers and packages: give clients a reason to book

Create an offer in ESA and it appears on your public offers page and in the Customer App straight away. Prepaid packages keep clients coming back, and you can track every credit as it's used.

6. Reviews: build trust

Reviews influence where clients book, and how prominently Google shows your salon.

  • Ask in person: have staff ask happy clients before they leave. "We'd love your feedback. Would you mind leaving us a review?" works well.

  • Make it easy: keep a QR code to your Google review link at the counter, and include the link in your WhatsApp bill.

  • Reply to every review, and handle complaints politely and publicly.

  • Never post fake reviews or offer rewards for them. Google can remove the reviews and suspend your profile.

Starting small

Don't try to do everything at once:

  1. Week 1: claim your Google profile and publish your ESA website.

  2. Week 2: import your client list into ESA and send your first WhatsApp campaign.

  3. Weeks 3–4: start posting on Instagram 3 times a week and asking every client for a review.

  4. Month 2 onwards: add packages and offers, and look at your ESA reports to see what's working.
