Waxing Guide

Waxing removes hair from the root for 3–5 weeks of smooth skin. The two things that matter most are hair length on the day and what you do in the 48 hours after.

Our waxes

  • Rica (liposoluble) wax — a low-temperature wax that grips hair more than skin

    • Best for: sensitive skin, arms, legs and underarms, with less redness

  • Regular (honey/strip) wax — warm wax removed with a strip

    • Best for: arms, legs, back and full body

  • Peel-off (hard) wax — sets on the hair and lifts off without a strip

    • Best for: face, underarms and bikini line; short or coarse hair

  • Threading — a cotton thread removes hair in fine lines

    • Best for: eyebrows, upper lip, forehead and face

Every service uses single-use spatulas with no double-dipping. Wax is heated to a skin-safe temperature and tested before it touches you.

When we will wait or adapt

  • Isotretinoin tablets in the last 6 months — we won't wax; threading or trimming instead

  • Retinoid, tretinoin or adapalene creams on the area in the last 5–7 days

  • Sunburn, cuts, rashes, cold sores, or a peel or laser on the area in the last 2 weeks

  • Varicose veins — we avoid waxing over them

  • Diabetes or poor circulation — please tell us; we may suggest a patch first

  • Pregnancy — usually fine, but skin is more sensitive; tell us so we can be gentler

Before your appointment

  1. Let hair grow to about 0.5 cm — roughly 2–3 weeks after shaving. Too short and the wax can't grip.

  2. Exfoliate gently 24–48 hours before, not on the day.

  3. On the day, skip body lotion, oil and deodorant on the area.

  4. Wear loose, comfortable clothing.

  5. Skin can be more sensitive just before and during your period; book outside those days if you prefer.

What happens in the chair

  1. Consultation and a skin check

  2. Cleanse with a pre-wax antiseptic

  3. Powder or pre-wax oil, depending on the wax

  4. Application in the direction of hair growth

  5. Removal against the direction of growth, with skin held taut to reduce discomfort

  6. Tweezing of any stray hairs

  7. Soothing gel or post-wax lotion to calm the skin

Aftercare (first 48 hours)

  • No hot showers, saunas, steam or swimming

  • No gym or heavy sweating for 24 hours

  • No sun exposure or tanning

  • Wear loose clothing over waxed areas

  • Underarms: skip deodorant or perfume for 24 hours

  • Face: skip makeup and actives (acids, retinoids) for 24 hours

  • Don't touch or scratch; small red bumps are normal and settle in 24–48 hours

Preventing ingrown hairs

  • From day 3, exfoliate gently 2–3 times a week

  • Moisturise daily

  • Don't shave between appointments — it resets your hair cycle and brings back stubble faster

How often

  • Face, upper lip, eyebrows: every 2–4 weeks

  • Underarms: every 3–4 weeks

  • Arms and legs: every 4–5 weeks

  • Bikini line: every 4–5 weeks

  • Big event: wax 2–3 days before so any redness has settled

With regular waxing every 4–5 weeks, many clients find regrowth becomes finer and sparser over time.

Call us if

  • Redness or bumps last longer than 3 days

  • You see pus-filled spots, swelling or warmth (signs of infection)
